Former Linfield striker Michael O'Connor joins Ross County

Former Linfield striker Michael O'Connor has signed for Scottish Premier League side Ross County.

O'Connor joins the Staggies from Waterford where he was in his second spell with the club.

The 22-year-old joined Linfield from Shamrock Rovers in the summer of 2018 before signing a loan deal with Waterford the following the summer.

He returned to Windsor Park in October 2019 at the end of the League of Ireland season, but rejoined Waterford on loan in January this year.

O'Connor's Linfield contract expired in May and he signed a permanent deal with Waterford before this week's move to Scotland.

“Waterford FC would like to thank Michael for his service and wish him all the best for the future,” said the club in a statement.

Ross County currently lie fifth in the Scottish Premiership after eight games, nine points behind leaders Rangers and eight off second-placed Celtic.

O’Connor could make his debut against Aberdeen this Saturday if international clearance arrives in time, or away to Rangers the following Friday.
