Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly is returning to the organization to be a part of the team’s radio broadcasts this season. The team announced the move on Monday morning. Kuechly will team up with Anish Shroff, Jordan Gross and former Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme for seven games.
His former quarterback and teammate has high expectations for how Kuechly will perform in the booth: “You just know (Kuechly’s) going to be good at it,” Delhomme said. “I look forward to it because he’s so smart.”
Kuechly was drafted by Carolina in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft, and was an immediate impact player for the Panthers. During his time in the league, Kuechly earned numerous awards, including the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, and five First-Team All-Pro selections.
After retiring, he spent a season with the Panthers as a professional scout. Now he moves to the broadcasting side of the game, and is excited about the future: “To see the field from a different angle is cool, and it’s fun to see it from this high, because it looks so much slower. When you’re on field level, everything looks like it’s moving so much faster because you don’t have that perspective from being high. The perspective from up here is really cool.”
