Former Liberty X star Michelle Heaton to join Dancing On Ice 2023 after addiction battle

Former Liberty X star Michelle Heaton will be taking part in Dancing On Ice following her addiction battle, it has been announced.

Appearing on ITV's Lorraine on Monday, the Gateshead-born singer said she couldn't believe she was able to compete considering how her body had been 18 months ago. She has now been 18 months sober and feels healthier than ever, believing that she's finally at the stage where she can compete.

Michelle has been honest about her battle with alcohol, often sharing photos of herself prior to going sober to show the brutal reality of her situation, reports The Mirror. Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, she said: "I’m so excited - I can’t believe it.

"Me and the kids are such huge fans of the show in general. I’ve always wanted to do it but I know I would never have been able to complete anything because of the way I was 18 months ago, so I’m really truly grateful that I’ve got it this year when I’m a lot stronger."

She thanked Lorraine for all of her support throughout the years, to which the host insisted that she had done it all herself. "It's just one day at a time - that's how I've taken it," Michelle said.

She is the 10th celebrity to be announced and will be joining DJ Patsy Palmer, football legend John Fashanu, Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, olympic gymnast Nile Wilson, Coronation Street ’s Mollie Gallagher, Drag Queen The Vivienne, TOWIE star Joey Essex, comedian Darren Harriott and Carley Stenson.

Joey Essex revealed he was taking part in the show last week on Friday's This Morning. He told hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary: "I'm so happy, I'm so excited. It's more serious to what I normally do, I've done all the dating shows in the world. This is a bit more serious for me."
