Ezgjan Alioski’s first season following his departure from Leeds United did not go to plan as Al-Ahli were relegated from the Saudi Arabia Pro League. Al-Ahli finished 15th in the 16-team division, one point adrift of safety but only five behind sixth-placed Al-Ta’ee, showing just how evenly matched the league was.
Alioski ended his four-year stay at Elland Road last summer after turning down the option to sign a new deal with the Whites. He instead decided to make the move to Saudi Arabia, though relegation to the second tier will not be what he had in mind.
The 30-year-old had a strong season on a personal level as he netted six goals and provided nine assists in 28 appearances. For that reason, it is difficult to see Alioski wanting to drop down to the Saudi First Division League (second tier), particularly as he enters the final few years of his career.

Alioski has spent the bulk of his career in Europe, and it would not be a surprise to see him make a swift return after just one season in the Middle East. Here is how Leeds fans have been reacting to the news of Alioksi’s disappointment.
@LeedsUtdRyan: “I agree with a lot of Leeds fans that we should re-sign Gjanni Alioski, his current team have just been relegated.”
@PJ_Jenno: “Leeds fans short memories. People were desperate to replace him. We finished ninth. The thoughts were if we could get a good left back will push on. Yes Firpo hasn’t worked out but going back to Ali isn’t the right solution.”
@geary16: “No way never go back! Especially for a player who was found out at PL level.”
@__NMARSCH__: “Stop living in the past, to live in the past like this is to welcome relegation, we’re aiming to improve the entire squad. I loved Alioski and he is still one of my favourite players but we’re to improve LB not keep it the same. Need to move on and change to become better.”
@Chickxn23: “Have people actually forgotten that Alioski was not great at all. He was the one weakness in the Bielsa team. Loved him when he was here but move on.”
