Former Leeds United frontman delivers striker transfer verdict following Everton draw

Jermaine Beckford has urged Leeds United to sign a new striker after their 1-1 draw against Everton on Tuesday night, but only if they are better than the current options at Jesse Marsch's disposal.

Despite going close through Joe Gelhardt, Leeds failed to find a winning goal and lacked the necessary cutting edge to break down Frank Lampard's resolute Toffees.

An injury to Rodrigo may potentially force Marsch to consider his goalscoring options in the closing stages of the transfer window with Patrick Bamford only just returning to full fitness.

Whilst admitting that his former club have quality in attacking areas, Beckford admitted he would be open to further transfer activity if the move bolstered Leeds' ranks.

Speaking to BT Sports after post-match Beckford claimed: "Patrick Bamford has just come back from injury so hopefully he has a nice season without any more injuries, you have Joe Geldhart off the bench, who is useful, he is a very energetic player but to push those guys on, especially with Rodrigo out for the duration, you would like to say I would not mind someone else coming in.

"It’s got to be better to what they already have in the ranks and you have to see what’s out there and build accordingly."

Having marked his Premier League debut with a second-half equaliser, Luis Sinisterra was arguably Leeds' best player. Following an injury-plagued pre-season after signing from Feyenoord, Beckford could not hide his delight at the Colombian's display.

"I am really pleased for him because he has had a difficult start to his Leeds United career with getting injured at the start of pre-season that stopped his progress but you can see the confidence he plays with every time he picks the ball up. He looked a threat and for his goal he managed to catch Jordan Pickford out," Beckford said.

The Whites visit Brentford on Saturday and will be looking to continue their impressive start to the season that currently sees the club sat in fifth position.
