Former Leeds defender Patrick Kisnorbo has reportedly attracted the attention of an EFL club after proving his managerial talent in Australia.
The 40-year-old former Australia international played for Leeds United from 2009 until 2013, before being released and returning to Australia to play for Melbourne City.
After a few years at the club he retired from playing completely in 2016. After that he worked his way up through the coaching system at Melbourne City before being appointed head coach in 2020.
In his first season as head coach he steered Melbourne City to a double, winning both a cup and the league.
Australian website FTBL reported : “Sources in the UK claim the ex-Hearts, Leicester City and Leeds United defender’s A-League Men accomplishments have grabbed the attention of the unnamed club who are willing to take a calculated risk and fulfil Kisnorbo’s dream of joining Australia’s select band of overseas-based coaching pilgrims.”
Melbourne’s previous head coach, Erick Mombaerts, told the same website last year: “PK has the level to coach in Europe. He knows everything about tactics and is a strong enough character.”
The website said that it would be unlikely that Kisnorbo’s club would stand in his way if an offer did materialise from Europe. It also reported that Kisnorbo has become frustrated with the impact of Covid restrictions on the playing season in Australia, which has added to his desire to make the leap to managing a team in Europe.
