Former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa's typically leftfield proposal deemed 'unworkable' for Everton

Marcelo Bielsa's proposal during his discussions with Everton's hierarchy was reportedly deemed 'unworkable' by the Merseyside club.

That is according to The Times, who claim Bielsa outlined that he needed 'seven weeks to ensure the squad would adapt to his methods', which meant taking charge of the first team immediately was difficult.

The former Leeds United boss reportedly wanted to bring eight backroom members of staff with him to Goodison Park and work with the under-21s and academy until the end of the season, before stepping up and taking charge of the Toffees.

Bielsa was believed to be Everton's first-choice candidate to succeed Frank Lampard, who was sacked after a run of nine defeats in 12 games left them in 19th place in the Premier League.

But Bielsa's doubts that the squad lacked the required pace to execute his high-energy brand of football cast doubt over the prospects of him taking over at Goodison Park.

And those fears appear to have been confirmed, after it was reported earlier today that Bielsa has 'rejected' the opportunity to manage Everton at this time. He is thought to prefer taking over in the summer, but Sean Dyche has emerged as the new favourite for the role as the Toffees need a quick fix in their quest to survive relegation.

The former Burnley manager has been out of work since he was relieved of his duties at Turf Moor in April 2022. The 51-year-old, who spent nine-and-a-half years at Burnley, is yet to strike a deal with Everton, as it is believed he wants a longer-term deal.
