Former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch overwhelming favourite to become new Southampton manager

Former Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch is the overwhelming odds-on favourite to replace Nathan Jones at Southampton as the Saints' new manager.

Marsch was relieved of his duties last week following a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Leeds are without a win in the top-flight since November and the board decided that it was time for action, despite having backed the American with four new signings in the January transfer window.

Jones shortly followed Marsch out of the managerial exit door after Southampton lost 2-1 to Wolves, throwing away a 1-0 lead against a side that were down to 10-men from the 27th minute onwards. The Welshman was in charge of eight matches during his time at St Mary's, winning one game and losing the other seven in a spell that lasted just three months.

The search for Leeds' new manager continues to rumble on and the club will no doubt be keen to accelerate their plans to get a new coach in given that another Premier League team is now on the hunt themselves.

However, Leeds may not have to be too concerned that Southampton will swoop in on any of their targets after the bookmakers made it clear that Marsch is the odds-on favourite to replace Jones on the south coast.
