Former Kilmarnock and Albion Rovers defender takes first steps into coaching at Wishaw

Wishaw boss David Dunn is delighted to add former Kilmarnock midfielder Mark Canning to his coaching staff for next season.

The midfielder has been part of the playing squad at the Beltane but will now focus more on assisting Dunn and Dean Richardson for next season's West of Scotland Second Division campaign.

Boss Dunn said: "We are absolutely delighted. Mark is a tremendous player first and foremost.

"It was a no-brainer. I spoke to him about the role I see him playing next season and he is really up for it.

"Over the last few weeks he's really taken to it. He's really helped get things organised for next season and he's really thrown himself into it.

"He will keep himself fit but he knows he won't play every week.

"If he needs to play it won't be out of sympathy, he knows that himself.

"But he adds so much to our staff with tremendous experience playing at the top level.

"We all want to do well and keep pushing this club forward.

"He did a bit of coaching at Larkhall, but this is his first proper step into it."

Meanwhile, Wishy are hopeful of strengthening their squad with the addition of three fresh faces and Dunn is thrilled to get midfielder Dom Febers back on board for next season after an injury hit 2022.

He added: "We are close to agreeing deals for three new players with others ongoing.

"But Dom Feebers has signed again. He only played 25 minutes at Vale of Clyde last season and we lost him to a knee injury so he will be like a new player.

"I was worried about his knee but he's had a full recovery and will work away over the summer, so we are excited about that.

"We are looking all the time to attract players but it's difficult at this level. We can only attract a certain player and that is frustrating but we knew that anyway."

The club's pre-season schedule has also been finalised.

On June 26 they are at home to Lesmahagow and then host East Stirling on July 2.

That will be followed by a trip to Blackburn on July 9 and then Thorniewood at home on July 16, before finishing up with Beith Juniors away on July 23.
