Former Kerry star Paul Galvin joins Kildare management team

Paul Galvin has been added to the Kildare senior football management team by Glenn Ryan.

There isn’t clarity about just what the former Kerry footballer’s role will be, with some reports describing him as a skills coach and others as a forwards coach, and Ryan wouldn’t be drawn on what his latest acquisition’s duties will be when speaking to the Leinster Leader.

He said that Galvin "is part and parcel of a team where everyone has an input, all important, from that perspective and it is important we get the right people to do those jobs that we think need to be done".

The 42-year-old had a brief stint in charge of Wexford in 2020 which ended prematurely when he was forced to relocate to the west of Ireland following the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, while he was linked to Peter Keane’s Kerry management team ahead of the 2021 season though ultimately didn’t come on board.

Galvin joins a high profile coaching ticket that Ryan assembled when appointed in October alongside former Kildare stars John Doyle, Dermot Early, Anthony Rainbow and Brian Lacey.

Kildare were eliminated from the O’Byrne Cup on Wednesday night after losing the semi-final to Laois on a penalty shootout. They open their Allianz League Division One campaign at home to Kerry, managed by Ryan’s immediate predecessor Jack O’Connor, on Sunday week.
