Former John Lewis make up artist set to open beauty salon in city centre

A new beauty salon is set to open on Castle Boulevard on Sunday, August 7 offering a selection of different treatments and pampering sessions. House of You will hold its official launch at the new premises from 2pm until 5pm.

The salon has been fully kitted out with beautiful decor and will offer treatments including skincare treatments and eyelashes. Owner Danni Mott has an extensive background in makeup artistry and has gathered a long list of loyal clientele over the years. She is delighted to be opening her first dedicated beauty salon.

Danni said: "I worked in MAC in John Lewis for two years before I realised that I wanted to for it and be my own boss. I've been doing eyelashes for three years now and opening my own salon has been something I've always wanted to do. All my clients told me that I'm ready to go out on my own."

She added: "I'm ready to be my own boss and independent but just as I left MAC to do this, we went into lockdown. I started other businesses like candle making as I've always been a hard worker. I get this from my dad who I've watched doing the same."

Danni's family and friends have been hugely supportive by helping her turn over the salon quickly to get it ready to open. The premise hadn't been open for two years prior to her moving in. The salon is completely kitted out and just waiting on signage for the front of the building.

"I got the keys on Monday and I was in here working by Friday. It was a tight schedule as I got the keys at 3 pm then I was here after I finished with clients by 6 pm that day with family and friends coming in to help me paint."

She added: "A neighbour came by and said, you are crazy, how have you managed to get this shop ready in a week when it has been empty for two years."

Danni is passionate about finding the right people to join the team. While she has space for other beauticians and make-up artists to join, she would rather not rush the process in order to find people who will be the fit for the salon.

"Mary Cavillx will be joining me to work on facials, micro-needling or derma planning along with other care treatments. My friend Nicky Allen will be doing make-up. She has a signature look that not many other makeup artists have. We will have another girl who will be doing nails and an aesthetics person joining us on August 14 for non-surgical procedures such as rhinoplasty and fillers. We already have a team of four but we've only been open for a week so far."

"I will be doing eyebrows and eyelashes but I want to get a qualification so I can teach people as well. A lot of my clients want to learn or go into being their own boss like I have. I would love to help people do the same," she explained.

"I've got space for another two or three more people but I'd rather have quality over quantity at the minute. The people I have are good at what they do and are passionate about what they do."

Danni has a lot of plans for the day including snacks and prosecco available for clients who want to check out the new store. Many of her regulars will become clients of the salon and the first few in the door will be treated to vouchers.

"We will have a lovely balloon arch on the day with biscuits, cakes and prosecco. I'll be offering £5 vouchers for the first 20 people who come through the door. It's a thank you to show people our appreciation as we wouldn't be here without their support."
