Former January 6 Committee Chairman Criticizes Supreme Court

Representative Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., talks during a hearing on Capitol Hill, Jan. 10, 2024, in Washington. Two Republicans will compete on Tuesday, April 2, for the right to challenge Thomp

Former January 6 Committee chairman Bennie Thompson has criticized the Supreme Court, accusing it of being 'lawless and corrupt.' Thompson expressed his belief that the court has prioritized partisanship over its responsibility to deliver impartial justice.

Thompson highlighted his concerns by pointing out the court's decision to grant 'absolute immunity' to a 'twice-impeached felon' for actions that aimed to undermine the legitimate results of the 2020 Presidential election. He specifically mentioned instances where the ex-President allegedly weaponized the Department of Justice for his campaign's benefit.

The Mississippi Democrat further criticized the Supreme Court for granting the former President additional delays, which he believes not only fulfills Trump's desires but also denies the American people justice ahead of a crucial election.

During his tenure as the select committee chairman, Thompson played a pivotal role in investigating Donald Trump's alleged involvement in the Capitol insurrection that occurred following his electoral defeat.
