A former janitor in a US primary school has been hit with an eight year jail sentence after he admitted to deliberately contaminating canteen food with bleach, faeces and saliva, filming his activities, and for possessing child abuse material.
Giovanni Impellizzeri, 27, pleaded guilty earlier this year to second-degree official misconduct and third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material, as reported by PEOPLE.
After a deal with prosecutors, charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and tampering with food products were dropped.

In a statement on Friday, March 28, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office announced he must serve five years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
New Jersey police opened an investigation into the former janitor back in October 2023 after school authorities were informed by parents of “alarming” videos of Impellizzeri on the encrypted app Telegram.
One video showed him “performing sexual acts with items from the school as well as doing things that would endanger the well-being of the students at the school”, PEOPLE reported.
Another video showed the janitor spraying bleach into a container of cucumbers and spitting on bread before returning both to containers that was later served to children at the school, according to court affidavits.
Police were able to confirm the videos were taken during the time he was employed by the Upper Deerfield Township school district. They also found items that matched the videos believed to be filmed at the elementary school.
During the investigation, authorities discovered the defendant was in possession of child sexual abuse materials, and added a further charge.

As reported by British newspaper The Mirror, messages later retrieved from Impellizzeri’s phone revealed additional shocking details.
County Assistant Prosecutor Lindsey Seidel explained that, in one of the messages, he states: ‘Honestly. I put bleach in their food before. They were fine, just a little sick. Oh, well. Not my problem’, per the publication.
“He also indicated: ‘I’m very f***ing sick in the head. I admit that’. And he indicated: ‘They had taco meat before, and I put some … poop in there and mixed it in and nobody knew the difference. They ate the s*** right up’.”
The Cumberland County Department of Health was brought in after his arrest in 2023 to ensure all items in the kitchen had been fully sanitised.
