Former Israeli Prime Minister Defends Aid Distribution In Gaza

Palestinians carry aid that has fallen from a truck, in Rafah

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett defended Israel's aid efforts in Gaza amidst accusations of hindering aid distribution. International organizations have raised concerns about aid not reaching those in need, with allegations of intentional harm by Israeli officials. However, Bennett refuted these claims, stating that Israel has allowed 24,000 trucks of food and aid into Gaza, totaling over 400,000 tons - a 30% increase compared to pre-war levels.

Bennett highlighted that despite the increased aid flow, Hamas, the ruling party in Gaza, has been diverting supplies for its own agenda, leading to food shortages among the population. He pointed out that Hamas has targeted aid convoys and infrastructure, such as the Kerem Shalom crossing, which serves as a vital entry point for humanitarian assistance.

The former Prime Minister criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC) for accusing Israel of actions that were actually carried out by Hamas. He emphasized the absurdity of blaming Israel for the consequences of Hamas' actions, including attacks on aid convoys and endangering the lives of Israeli soldiers defending the aid routes.

Bennett's remarks shed light on the complexities of aid distribution in conflict zones, where political dynamics and militant groups can obstruct humanitarian efforts. Despite Israel's efforts to facilitate aid delivery, challenges persist due to the actions of Hamas, which has a history of exploiting humanitarian assistance for its own purposes.
