The appointment of Danon as the Israeli Ambassador to the UN is pending Government approval, following which he will commence his second term in this position.
When questioned about the potential impact of Danon's return on relations between the UN and Israel, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric responded optimistically, stating, “Hope springs eternal.” Dujarric also noted the businesslike relationship between Danon and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Danon is set to replace Gilad Erdan as the Israeli Ambassador to the UN. Erdan recently made headlines after leaking a video on social media showing him in conversation with an apparent UN official. The leak was strongly condemned by Dujarric, who emphasized that such actions were unprecedented in the UN's 25-year history of service.
Secretary-General Guterres, according to Dujarric, has not engaged in discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu since the onset of the conflict.
