Former Ireland international Rory Delap joins Robbie Keane at Maccabi Tel Aviv

Robbie Keane's former Ireland international team-mate Rory Delap will work with the Dubliner at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Keane took charge of the Israeli Premier League club earlier this week and has moved to bring in Delap, who spent most of his playing career with Derby County and Stoke City.

The 46-year-old was a coach at both clubs, too - first with Derby, where he worked in the academy, before working under Gary Rowett at Stoke five years ago before a brief stint as caretaker boss.

He remained at the Potters until the start of this year.

He finished his playing career a decade ago and then moved into the coaching sphere at two of his old stomping grounds.

Keane is surrounding himself with people he knows as he begins his first job as a manager.

Ireland's record goalscorer worked alongside Andy Liddell during Mick McCarthy's second spell with the national team and Liddell, a former player who became a fitness coach, has joined Maccabi in that capacity.
