Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich expressed his gratitude towards President Donald Trump for pardoning him after spending nearly eight years in prison on corruption charges. Blagojevich was convicted for attempting to sell or trade former President Barack Obama's former Senate seat, among other offenses. Trump commuted his sentence five years ago and granted him a full pardon on Monday.
In an interview, Blagojevich shared his appreciation for President Trump's actions, stating that he and his family are profoundly grateful for the pardon. He described his warm affection for Trump, highlighting the president's kindness towards him. Blagojevich also discussed his phone call with Trump regarding the pardon and reflected on their relationship, which began when he appeared on Trump's reality TV show, 'The Celebrity Apprentice.'
Blagojevich emphasized his innocence, claiming that the allegations against him were a 'big lie from the beginning.' He argued that the political conversations he had, including discussions about the Senate seat, were not criminal in nature. He pointed out that the appellate court later reversed the decision related to the Senate seat, vindicating him.

The former governor reiterated his gratitude towards Trump and expressed excitement about his future. He denied any wrongdoing during his time in office and stated that he never accepted any illegal payments. Blagojevich, who referred to himself as a 'Trump-ocrat,' hinted at a possible ambassadorship to Serbia, a suggestion made by Trump. However, he remained focused on supporting Trump and contributing to the country's progress.
Blagojevich praised Serbia's economic growth under President Aleksandar Vucic and expressed interest in the country's development. He emphasized his commitment to showing gratitude to Trump and supporting his efforts to improve the nation.
