Former home of Doctor Who Riverside Studios put up for sale after entering administration last month

Famed Hammersmith filming location Riverside Studios has today been put up for sale, after it entered administration last month.

Savills will market the site, which was used by the BBC to film programmes such as Doctor Who and Hancock’s Half Hour  between 1954 and 1974.

Today, it is home to restaurant Sam’s Riverside and Riverside Television Studios, where programmes such as Have I Got News for You and Top of the Pops have been filmed.

The Riverside Trust announced that it had filed for administration last month, citing “eye-watering” energy costs.

Paul Breen, director in the licensed leisure team at Savills, says it  was rare for a property like this to come onto the market.

“The Riverside Studios presents a unique opportunity to acquire a long leasehold property in a highly desirable riverside location in West London,” he said. “It is a state of the art purpose-built facility with a uniquely central proposition in the arts and culture sector.

“With the scarcity of this type of opportunity and the incredibly high barriers of entry, we expect there will be significant and diverse demand in the market place from both potential occupiers and investors.”

The site takes up 95,000 square feet of space, with a long lease that expires in 2214.
