Former Hollyoaks actress set to join Coronation Street cast next week

Soap fans may spot a familiar face while watching Coronation Street next week.

It has been confirmed former Hollyoaks actress Sarah Lawrence will join the cobbles as a character called Viyona Lahiri. She is set to play the part of a reporter working for the Weatherfield Gazette.

The actress is best known for playing the part of Darlene Taylor between 2003 and 2006 on the Channel 4 soap. But, back in February, she teased her new ITV soap role as she posted an Instagram selfie wearing a Corrie location jacket while posing in the studio’s dressing room.

Sarah captioned the post : "Cold. Cold. Cold. I never want to take this jacket off." Fans were overjoyed to see her joining the soap and took to the comments to congratulate her.

Marquelle said: "Go you!" followed by several star emojis. Natalie added: "Yasssss!" Another user complimented her looks, as they wrote: "Beautiful as always." It's unsure how long Sarah's character will be on the ITV soap for, but as a mother-of-three she is also keen to spend time raising her family.

Sarah has appeared in a handful of roles including an episode of Holby City and two episodes of Doctors in 2020 since quitting Hollyoaks in 2006 to focus on raising her kids with husband Chris Moore. Prior to appearing in Hollyoaks, Sarah played Mel Adams in Grange Hill for two years.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
