Former Hearts defender in Premiership transfer possibility as Dundee United eye deal

Ben Garuccio could be one of two Australian players brought to Dundee United as Jack Ross reportedly looks at the former Hearts left-back.

The 27-year-old returned to the A-League in 2020 after a two-year Tynecastle stint and is now at Western United, where he has impressed since his 2021 arrival. Aussie Scout report that Garuccio is being targeted by the Tangerines with United head coach Ross also keen on the signing of Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.

It would be another player this summer alone that Mariners have lost to the Premiership, with Kye Rowles joining Hearts and Lewis Miller heading to the other side of the city at Hibs. They have also profited from the SPFL market and Jason Cummings is now in contention for a spot with Australia at this winter's World Cup after hitting top form for head coach Nick Montgomery since his January switch from Dundee.

Garuccio joined Hearts from Adelaide United but couldn't make a sustained impact, appearing just 21 times.

He left as the Jambos were relegated to the Championship when the Covid pandemic kicked in over two years ago.

So far this summer, Gorgie boss Robbie Neilson has signed Rowles, Lewis Neilson, Alan Forrest, Alex Cochrane and Jorge Grant.
