Former NFL head coach Ron Rivera will not be joining the Jacksonville Jaguars’ coaching staff.
According to NFL insider Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Rivera will be in a “general manager-like” role with the Cal Berkeley football program.

It was reported over the weekend by John Shipley of Jaguars on Sports Illustrated that Rivera was interviewing for a role on the Jaguars’ coaching staff, although the specifics of what that role would be were not specified.
Presumably, with Liam Coen being a first-time head coach, Anthony Campanile a first time defensive coordinator at the NFL level, and the offensive coordinator candidates never having held that title in the NFL, Rivera would hold a senior assistant title to provide some experience on this young staff.
Rivera is a two-time Coach of the Year in the NFL. He was the Washington head coach from 2020-2023 and the Carolina head coach from 2011-2019.
As a head coach, Rivera has a cumulative record of 102-103-2 over 13 seasons. This includes five playoff appearances, along with a trip to the Super Bowl in 2015 after the Panthers put together a 15-1 record that year.
Coen’s coaching staff is taking shape with the offensive coordinator role the last big job to fill, along with there still being some position coach openings available as well.
The Jaguars have also started their search for their next general manager.
