Former Graham Potter favourite at Brighton raises major Chelsea concern amid 'restless' claim

Graham Potter's start to life at Chelsea hasn't gone as he would have imagined. Two of his first three scheduled games were postponed, while the one match he has taken charge of finished as a 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg in the Champions League.

Now the 47-year-old has to wait until October 1 to manage his next Chelsea game due to the international break when he takes his side to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace in a London derby. It's been a stop-start beginning to life at Stamford Bridge.

Potter's appointment has been largely met with positivity, although some pundits have raised concerns as to how the former Brighton boss will deal with the pressure that comes with managing Chelsea. Former Blues boss Rafael Benitez says Potter simply 'has to win games' in west London, while Craig Burley believes he may struggle to deal with the big egos in the Chelsea dressing room.

Pascal Gross, who thrived under Potter's management at Brighton, shares similar concerns - although admits that he has 'a lot of confidence' that his old manager will succeed. Gross played 109 times under Potter, scoring 10 goals and claiming 20 assists.

The German playmaker was a key player - and also one of the more high-profile ones - under Potter. However, he is now walking into a dressing room full of world-class talents, and Gross is 'curious' as to how Potter manages them.

“It certainly won’t be easy [for Potter at Chelsea]," Gross told Sport 1. "But I have a lot of confidence in Graham. He is a top coach who is very good at tactics and interpersonal skills.

"But of course, it’s a whole new level at Chelsea. Only the bare results count. People get restless more quickly. I’m curious to see how Graham deals with all the stars. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him in his new job.”
