Former Goa guv Satya Pal Malik ’s comments unconstitutional, he must resign: BJP

PANAJI: A day after former Goa governor Satya Pal Malik levelled serious corruption charges against the state government, BJP on Tuesday slammed him and demanded his resignation for speaking out against the government.

“He (can’t) hold a constitutional post and speak against a BJP government, (he can) resign and speak as much as he wants,” party general secretary Damodar Naik said, adding that Malik’s remarks are “unconstitutional and wrong”.

He also said the allegations won’t have any impact on BJP’s prospects of winning the 2022 assembly election.

Malik’s comments prompted opposition parties to demand the government’s resignation, and BJP said that these parties have come together to ensure BJP doesn’t form the next government.

“Why did he speak months before the election?” Naik asked. “Who is behind the conspiracy? An honest person is looking after the affairs of the state. He goes to the people to make Goa swayampurna. People are appreciating his efforts. Did Malik remember this when PM Narendra Modi praised the CM as an energetic leader?”

Naik also sought to know “why he was mum when he was in Goa”. “Did we stop him from speaking when he was Goa governor?” he said.

Claiming that governors do not go public, Naik said that Malik making statements is completely wrong. “Whenever files came to the governor and he found that something was not right, he should have called the chief minister and told him so. Did he do that when he was in Goa?”

Naik said that if something is wrong in the state, it is the duty of the governor to inform the Union home ministry, and that it would have taken note.
