Former Glasgow Labour councillor accused of stalking ex-partner

A FORMER Lord Provost is accused of stalking his former partner.

Philip Braat, 48, allegedly committed the crime against the woman at a property near Glasgow city centre between July and October 2024.

Court papers state the ex-Glasgow City Council Labour councillor refused to accept the end of their relationship.

It is claimed Braat sent her an email containing a purported communication to his employer that he was considering his resignation.

He is further accused of sending her an email containing purported communication to a police officer.

Braat is claimed to have uttered remarks during a phone call, in messages and emails suggesting that he would harm yourself.

It is stated that Braat had been requested to stop contact repeatedly.

However, Braat allegedly contacted her via emails, text messages, social media messages and notifications, as well as phone calls which were unwanted.

The charge says Braat repeatedly attended at her home address and left unwanted gifts outside her front door.

It is claimed he placed a banner with handwriting on the wall in the communal close.

Braat, of the city’s Broomhill, is further stated to have written abusive remarks on her front door and wall.

The charge further claims he left unwanted portraits of her at her front door and sent a typewritten letter to her place of work which contained derogatory remarks towards her.

The matter was continued without plea with a further hearing to take place this week at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
