Former Giants OL Nick Gates signs with Eagles

Former New York Giants offensive lineman Nick Gates is on the move again, this time to another NFC rival — the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gates, who began his career with the Giants as a UDFA out of Nebraska back in 2018, played 44 games for the Giants with 29 starts at various positions along the offensive line.

Gates’ career nearly ended in Week 2 of the 2021 season when he shattered both his fibula and tibia in his left leg on Thursday Night Football against Washington.

It took seven surgeries to repair the damage in Gates’ leg and he made it back to the field midway through the 2022 season, playing in 10 games. The Giants chose not to retain him after the season.

He signed a three-year free agent deal with the Washington Commanders in March of last year but fell out of favor and was released earlier this year.

The Eagles are still shuffling their offensive line after the retirement of longtime center Jason Kelce.

Eagles beat reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks believes Gates could end up in the middle of some “brotherly shove” plays this year.
