Former Georgia Bulldog Thomas Brown has interviewed with the Chicago Bears to become their full-time head coach. If Brown were hired, this would be his first time as an NFL head coach without an interim tag.
Brown, a former running back for the Bulldogs, was the interim head coach for Chicago when the franchise parted ways with head coach Matt Eberflus after Week 12 of the 2024 season. With the Bears, he went just 1-4, with the offense averaging 13.8 points per game and the defense allowing 26 points per game.
Brown was a fast riser with the Bears in 2024. He was originally hired as the passing game coordinator on Jan. 30, 2024, but transitioned to the offensive coordinator on Nov. 12 after Shane Waldron was fired. Only 17 days later, Brown became the Bears’ interim head coach.
He also served as the offensive play caller for the 2023 Carolina Panthers after they parted ways with Frank Reich on Nov. 27 after their loss to the Tennessee Titans. Under Brown’s play calling, the Panthers’ offense averaged 10.5 points per game, but they had their best offensive showing under Brown in a 33-30 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 16.
Brown is also interviewing for offensive coordinator positions across the league, such as the open job with Seattle.
Before his stops with Carolina and Chicago, he was the assistant head coach for the Los Angeles Rams with Sean McVay. He is highly respected among the NFL.
