Former Georgia Lt. Gov. To Vote For Biden Over Trump

Former Georgia Republican Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan announced on Monday that he will be casting his vote for President Joe Biden in the upcoming election. Duncan expressed his decision in an opinion piece published in a local media outlet, citing his belief that former President Donald Trump has disqualified himself through his conduct and character.

In his op-ed titled 'Why I’m voting for Biden and other Republicans should, too,' Duncan outlined his reasons for not supporting the GOP nominee. He emphasized that a second term for Trump would hinder the Republican Party from moving forward and rebuilding after the Trump era.

Duncan criticized fellow Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, for aligning themselves with Trump. He also called out former Attorney General Bill Barr for choosing to support Trump over Biden in the election.

Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia led Duncan and other GOP election officials in the state to push back against his claims of fraud. Duncan, who served as president of the Georgia state Senate, testified in front of a grand jury regarding Trump's efforts to overturn the election.

Following the 2020 election, Duncan expressed his disgust at Trump's attacks on Georgia officials and the threats they received. He highlighted the increased security measures that officials and their families had to adopt due to the situation.

In 2021, Duncan announced that he would not seek reelection in 2022, opting instead to focus on reforming the GOP. He stressed the importance of moving on as Republicans and taking steps towards a future without Trump's influence.

Duncan's decision to support Biden reflects a growing sentiment among some Republicans who believe that distancing themselves from Trump is necessary for the party's progress and integrity.
