A former Florida Highway Patrol trooper, aged 49, has been arrested and subsequently fired after being accused of committing a burglary at a Hooters restaurant in Daytona Beach. The incident, which took place on March 28, involved the suspect allegedly throwing a cinder block through a window and stealing four beer taps from the establishment.
The suspect, identified as David Baker, was charged with felony burglary in connection with the incident. Following the arrest, the Florida Highway Patrol took immediate action and terminated Baker's employment, citing that his actions did not align with the core values of the organization.
Authorities were alerted to the burglary after responding to a security alarm at the Hooters restaurant. Upon arrival, they discovered a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot, which led them to Baker. Surveillance footage provided by the restaurant's manager showed Baker entering the premises, breaking a window, and removing the beer taps before loading them into his truck.
During the investigation, Baker reportedly provided conflicting accounts of his whereabouts on the night of the incident. License plate readers indicated his presence at multiple locations, further implicating him in the crime.
The Florida Highway Patrol emphasized that integrity is fundamental to their professionalism and credibility, and any actions contrary to their core values will not be tolerated. The agency's Executive Director made the decision to dismiss Baker immediately due to the seriousness of the allegations.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding ethical standards and the consequences of deviating from them, especially for individuals in positions of authority and public trust.
