Gretar Steinsson is nearing an appointment at Tottenham Hotspur as a performance director, according to reports from The Athletic.
The former Bolton Wanderers defender was Everton's head of recruitment and development up until December 2021, when he left the club shortly following the exit of Marcel Brands as director of football. The pair had worked closely together on Blues transfers for a number of years.
Steinsson was initially brought to Merseyside in December 2018 after leaving his position as technical director at Fleetwood Town. He was promoted to become head of recruitment and development in October 2019 to help identify a number of transfers.

His exit coincided with then-manager Rafael Benitez being given more impact on the recruitment side of the club following the departure of Brands at the beginning of December 2021, before the boss was himself sacked the following month.
According to The Athletic, Steinsson is nearing a return to the Premier League with Spurs, with the report suggesting that he is set to have a wide remit with the north London club including both senior and youth levels. He would be working closely with Fabio Paratici, their director of football.
The move is yet to be confirmed by Tottenham at the time of writing.
