Former Eurovision winner denied accreditation at Liverpool 2023 event

A former Eurovision Song Contest winner has been denied accreditation at this year's event in Liverpool.

Måns Zelmerlöw, who won the contest in 2015 for Sweden, has travelled to Liverpool for this year's event. He has posted several updates during his time in the city, including a picture with this year's Swedish entrant Loreen, who is the bookies favourite to repeat her victory from the 2021 song contest.

But yesterday, Måns told his 437,000 Instagram followers that he had been denied accreditation to the event. He shared a message from the organisers which said: "Dean Måns, we regret to inform you that your application for accreditation for the Eurovision Song Contest has been DECLINED. We understand that you may be disappointed with this outcome."

Alongside the images, Måns posted a message, which said: "What a lovely welcome. #8yearslater." The hashtag is a reference to the time since he won the contest.

Accreditation for the event is offered to delegations, members of the media and others and provides access to certain areas of the Eurovision Song Contest areas - including at the Arena where the main show will take place on Saturday.

Eurovision has been approached for a comment.
