England rugby union legend Mike Brown has thanked Leeds Rhinos for a “great day of learning” after spending time with Richard Agar’s squad. The 36-year-old former Red Rose full-back is currently playing for Newcastle Falcons after a long and distinguished career with reigning Premiership champions Harlequins.
He worked with Leeds assistant coach Sean Long at Quins and that relationship opened the door for Brown to spend Thursday inside the Rhinos’ camp. Brown, capped 72 times by England, saw at close hand the vital preparations undertaken by Agar’s squad as they prepare to face Salford Red Devils in a crucial Super League encounter tonight.
Brown said on social media: “Thanks to Rich Agar, Sean Long and the Leeds Rhinos for allowing me into their environment today. Players and staff were so welcoming.

“I took so much from the day, observing them in their final prep of the week before they play Salford and having the opportunity to spend time and chat with Rich about his role at Leeds, his experiences in Rugby League, recruitment models, recruitment creativity, player pathway, playing identity, balancing a DOR & Head Coach role, managing up and more. A great day of learning for me.”
Brown is set to leave Newcastle at the end of the season and it remains to be seen if he will continue playing elsewhere or potentially move into coaching.
