A former employee has filed a lawsuit against Kanye West, alleging instances of discrimination and misconduct. The employee, who worked for West's fashion brand Yeezy and at Donda Academy, claimed to have witnessed anti-Black racism, homophobic outbursts, and antisemitic remarks by West.
The lawsuit details various incidents where the employee, who is Black, was allegedly berated and humiliated by West. It also mentions a pattern of mistreatment towards Black employees compared to their white counterparts.
According to the complaint, West made derogatory comments about Jewish people during staff meetings at Donda Academy, including in the presence of children. The lawsuit further alleges that West praised Hitler, expressed hatred towards Jewish individuals, and made inappropriate remarks about gay people.
Additional claims in the lawsuit include an incident where West reportedly threatened to fire a Black security guard if he did not shave his dreadlocks, as well as a public humiliation of the employee during a 'Sunday service' at Donda Academy.
The lawsuit also describes a volatile interaction between West and the employee, where West initially fired him in front of a large audience but later gave him another chance, only to rescind the offer the following day via text message.
The lawsuit seeks an injunction to prevent West from owning and operating a school, in addition to claims of race discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination.
Donda Academy, where some of the alleged incidents took place, has since closed down, although there are discussions about reopening it in the future.
In light of these serious allegations, the lawsuit sheds light on the challenging work environment described by the former employee and raises questions about accountability and workplace conduct.
