Former Eagles Player Scathes Report NFL Blamed Players for Super Bowl Slipping

Former Eagles player and Lions safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson called out a report that said the NFL “blames“ the Chiefs and the Philadelphia team for not wearing the right cleats during Super Bowl LVII.

The Monday article from Pro Football Talk cited a league source, who said the NFL “blames the players for not wearing the right shoes” as the cause for excessive slipping at State Farm Stadium. Gardner-Johnson was not happy the league chose to place the blame for the slippage on the players.

“Man pre game I went through 3 different cleats!!” Gardner-Johnson tweeted on Monday. “Even the studs wasn’t working explain that please.”

The Eagles as a team changed cleats during halftime to try to combat the slippage during the game, but that didn’t seem to solve the issue either. Philadelphia eventually fell to Kansas City, 38–35.
