After winning at Ohio State, Chip Kelly has returned to the NFL as Pete Carroll’s offensive coordinator with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kelly was considered an early target for the Jaguars and Texans positions.
Kelly, 61, just won a national championship with the Buckeyes. After flaming out with the Eagles and 49ers, he’s kept an interest in the NFL for years, including last year when his name was tossed around the league following his UCLA tenure and before he went to Ohio State.

Kelly becomes the third assistant coach to leave Ohio State this offseason, joining defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and offensive line coach Justin Frye. Knowles left the Buckeyes to become the defensive coordinator at Penn State, while Frye left Ohio State to become the Arizona Cardinals’ offensive line coach.
With Kelly calling Ohio State’s offensive plays and coaching the Buckeyes’ quarterbacks, Ohio State scored 35.7 points per game – an increase of more than five points per game from 2023 – and Will Howard completed a school-record 73% of his passes while leading the team to a national championship.
A legendary coach at Oregon, Kelly was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons and then coached the 49ers for a year before being dismissed. Kelly has been in the college ranks since becoming the UCLA coach in 2018.
