Former Dumfries and County golfer scores top 10 finish on Porsche European Open

Connor Syme cruised into a top 10 finish on the DP World Tour at the weekend.

The former Dumfries and County golfer was playing in the Porsche European Open at the Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg.

A challenging course saw Syme end his opening round on level par after shooting a 73 before narrowly making the cut on Friday after ending his second round +4.

But the 27-year-old rebounded to birdie three of his first seven on Saturday before ending the day on -4 after shooting 69.

Once again he birdied three of the first seven on Sunday but bogeys on six and eight cost him places. Birdies at 12 and 15 were followed by a dropped shot at 16 as he ended the week on -2 and shared tenth place with three other players.

That result gave Syme €33,283 and 49.2 tour points as he passes the €2 million prize money mark in his professional career.

Syme will aim to stay in high gear this week as he heads to Stockholm, Sweden for the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed tournament.

Liam Johnston missed the cut on the Challenge Tour at the weekend.

The 30-year-old was in Kácov for the D+D Real Czech Challenge at the Panorama Golf Resort.

Johnston jets off to Spain this week for the Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz which tees off at the Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri on Thursday.
