Former Dolphins practice squad receiver announces retirement

Drew Morgan never took a formal snap for the Miami Dolphins, but he did spend the entire 2017 NFL season on the team’s practice squad. His brush with South Florida will be as close as Morgan gets to a career in the NFL, as last night he announced his retirement from the National Football League.

Morgan, who was a product of the Arkansas Razorbacks program, went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft despite an accomplished career at the college level. Morgan was a 2015 2nd-team All-SEC honoree after logging 10 receiving touchdowns and nearly 900 yards.

The NFL proved to be much tougher sledding, but ultimately Morgan achieved the lifelong dream he’d set out to live: playing in the NFL.

“My dream was to always play professional football in the NFL, and I can hang up my cleats knowing that I successfully accomplished that dream,” Morgan wrote. “…I hang my cleans up with a smile on my face knowing that I have done all that I could in my power to lead my siblings.”

Best wishes to Morgan as he explores the next chapter of his life — and his first one in quite a long time without football.
