Former deputy principal Matthew Keong to stand trial on historical child sex offences at Brisbane school

A former deputy principal at a Brisbane primary school has been ordered to stand trial on historical child sex offences.

Matthew Keong was charged with two counts of rape last year, accused of sexually assaulting a boy in the early 2000s.

It is alleged the 48-year-old, who was previously working at Windsor State School, committed the offences against the student while teaching at another Brisbane school.

In a brief committal hearing on Wednesday,  the boy's mother told the Brisbane Magistrates Court through tears, her son had only disclosed the allegations to her in the last few years, while he was serving time in jail.

"We knew nothing before," she said.

"He made a comment probably two months before he was released."

The woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her son, told the court he gave her further details about the alleged attack when he left custody in late 2020.

"He said, 'I've never told you this, but I was actually molested in primary school'," she said.

"He got upset, I said it's not your fault, you've done nothing wrong."

The woman told the court her son's "actual words" to her about the alleged offending including graphic details, and said she believed he would have been in Year 6 or 7 at the time.

"It was after a swimming carnival in the change rooms, he was the last one in there when [Mr Keong] came in," she said.

Under cross examination, the woman said her son had engaged lawyers to pursue a personal injury claim in relation to the alleged offences.

Mr Keong's lawyer consented to the two charges being committed on behalf of his client, and Magistrate Michael Quinn said he was "satisfied that the evidence before the court is sufficient to put you upon your trial".

When asked if he wanted to say anything in relation to the charges, Mr Keong said "not guilty, Your Honour".

The matter will return to the District Court at a later date.
