A Southport landmark is set to be given a new lease of life after being empty for two years.
The former Debenhams building in Southport closed in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. The property was bought by new owners in 2021 for £799,000.
Posters have now appeared in the window of the once iconic store located on Lord Street advertising that the premises would be suitable for anyone wanting to open a shop, a cafe, or a bar, with units available between 2,000 square feet and 10,000 square feet. The former Debenhams tore in Southport was originally built in 1888 and was a key element of Southport's retail success.

The store was made a part of the Burton chain in 1985 with its later stewardship under Baroness Retail Limited and, more recently, The Boohoo Group which closed 22 stores across the UK. It is the latest in a string of developments that are set to help transform Lord Street.
The site of the former Grand Casino is set to be reopened this July as The Grand following a £3 million investment by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group. Last summer the new Beales department store opened further along Lord Street at the front of the Wayfarers Arcade and the grand opening saw shoppers que down the street to get in.
Work on converting the former Debenhams is nearly complete however no time frame has been as to when it will be open to the public once again.
