A FORMER councillor has been charged with threatening behaviour and criminal damage, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
Christopher McEleny — who was previously the SNP's Inverclyde Council group leader and is now general secretary of the Alba party — had the case called at Greenock Sheriff Court on Friday morning.
McEleny, 36, is accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by allegedly shouting, swearing and repeatedly kicking and banging a door.
Prosecutors say he acted aggressively towards another man at an address on Kelly Street, repeatedly demanded entry to a common close and making threats to force entry.
He is further charged with maliciously forcing the door and causing damage to its handle.
He is said to have committed the alleged offences on September 26, 2021.
Pleas of not guilty to both charges were tendered in his absence from a first calling of the case through lawyer Gerry Keenan.
Matters are due to call again on June 6, ahead of a trial scheduled for June 28.
