Former Coronation Street star Jack James Ryan has landed a new role in a six-part series following his exit from the ITV soap.
Jack, 26, portrayed Jacob Hay but the reformed drug-dealer was forced out of Weatherfield by his brutal dad Damon last month.
He joined the soap in 2021 but Jack's character straightened up from the bad boy who arrived following his romance with Amy Barlow ( Elle Mulvaney ) during his time on the cobbles.
Jack has not had to wait long to land his next major role after being cast in a dark comic thriller called Passenger, which will also air on ITV.
Speaking to Metro, he said: "I’m going to do that really annoying thing that actors do where they tease something that they can’t really talk about! I have booked a job. I’m really, really excited for it.
"I start filming next month and I’ll be filming for the next four months on that. So, yeah, I’m really excited! I can’t say anything more but as soon as I can, I can’t wait to reveal what I’m doing."
The six-parter, which has been created and written by Broadchurch actor Andrew Buchan, is set in a small northern village of Cheddar Vale - a close-knit community that is sent spinning on its axis following a series of strange and unnatural crimes.
Jack will play John Trowbridge in the new series, which has not had a release date confirmed, but filming has already begun.
He is not the only former Corrie star to feature in the thriller as former Summer Spellman actress Matilda Freeman will be joining the cast.
Matilda portrayed Summer between 2017 and 2020 when the part was recast, with incumbent Harriet Bibby replacing the 18-year-old. She is reported to have been handed the role of Lilly Wells in Passenger.
Jack had vowed to return to Corrie so his character Jacob can rekindle his love with Amy and clear his name.
He hopes Jacob can swoop in one day to reclaim Amy as the love of his life in the future.
Speaking about a potential return, Jack said: "One of the writers said the best time to bring a character back is when it’s going to cause the most damage.
"I daydream that in five years’ time, when Amy’s getting settled down and she’s found the man that she really loves and is about to get married, he could burst through the doors and say ‘I object’ or whatever they say at weddings.
"I think it would be cool for him to get the opportunity to clear his name because I think he does deserve it. He wouldn’t get the best reception but I think Amy would secretly be happy to see him."
Coronation Street continues to air every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
