A former aide to former U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, President Donald Trump's nominee for labor secretary, bypassed a security screening on Tuesday at a congressional office building, according to U.S. Capitol Police.
At approximately 4:08 p.m., the former staffer, who possessed an active Congressional ID, entered the Cannon Garage and bypassed security screening. The individual left the building shortly after. Capitol Police clarified that the staffer did not break into the Cannon building and was determined not to be a threat after an interview.
The Capitol Police's Office of Professional Responsibility will be conducting an administrative investigation into the incident.
Investigators retrieved video footage of the suspect and were seeking information from congressional aides. The individual was described as a man with a beard and wearing a hoodie.

Chavez-DeRemer, who resigned from her seat in January after being nominated by Trump for the Department of Labor position, is scheduled to testify before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) on Wednesday.
Trump praised Chavez-DeRemer's dedication to working with both business and labor sectors to enhance America's workforce and support its workers. He expressed anticipation for collaborating with her to create opportunities for American workers, expand training and apprenticeships, increase wages, improve working conditions, and revitalize manufacturing jobs.
The one-term Republican lost her re-election bid in November to Democrat Janelle Bynum.
