Former Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and Congress leader from Srikakulam district Peerukatla Viswa Prasad joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the presence of party national president N. Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad on May 7 (Sunday).
Mr. Viswa Prasad sent a resignation letter to Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gidugu Rudra Raju a few days ago, citing personal reasons.
He was elected to the Council from the Srikakulam local body constituency on March 21, 2011. His father Peerukatla Venkatappala Naidu had also served as an MLC.
Mr. Viswa Prasad, who held a meeting a few days ago with his loyalists at his native village of Rajupuram in Burja mandal of Srikakulam district, took a decision to join the TDP.
TDP Srikakulam district president Kuna Ravikumar assured Mr. Viswa Prasad a respectable post in the party.
Mr. Viswa Prasad belongs to the Kapu community and has wide contacts with the community leaders in Srikakulam district. It is said to be one of the reasons for the TDP to approach him.
“Only Mr. Naidu can ensure the speedy development of Srikakulam district and Andhra Pradesh,” Mr. Viswa Prasad told The Hindu over phone after joining the TDP.
