Former Chelsea striker disagrees with Arsenal hero amid Everton vs West Ham predictions

West Ham United are back in Premier League action this weekend when they take on winless Everton.

After a midweek trip to Denmark ended in a 3-2 win in the Europa Conference League against Silkeborg IF, the Irons remain on the road as they travel to Merseyside looking to climb out of the relegation zone.

David Moyes’ men have had a disappointing start to the campaign with just one Premier League win and four points on the board after six games. But this Sunday they come up against an Everton side still looking for their first win.

The Toffees are level on points with the Hammers though, and sit two places above the east London outfit due to goal difference. With Everton drawing four games so far, former Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton told BBC Sport: “This game has got draw written all over it - which is why I am going for a different outcome altogether!"

Predicting a 2-1 win for West Ham, Sutton added: “You could argue both teams have been a bit unlucky not to have more points on the board so far - West Ham in particular were on the wrong end of a terrible VAR decision in their defeat by Chelsea last time out.

“Everton are still looking for their first league win of the season, although there was not much wrong with their performance against Liverpool in their last game, and they are becoming a difficult team to beat.

“A win would kickstart the season for both sides, and I think it is the Hammers who will get it. They beat Everton home and away last season, and I'm going for a repeat result - just about.”

Meanwhile, Paul Merson decided to not to pick a winner. The former Arsenal midfielder believes there are signs of improvement from Everton under Frank Lampard, picking out their goalless draw with arch-rivals Liverpool as a “great result”.

But, against unpredictable West Ham, Merson believes both sides will share the points on Sunday. Predicting a 1-1 draw, Merson told Sportskeeda: “It might sound ridiculous, but I appreciate what Frank Lampard has done as Everton manager so far. They are getting harder to beat and he's got his team working hard, which is only a good sign.

“Everton got a great result against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby - they just have to hang in there and keep fighting it out to get points on the board. West Ham United haven't had the best start to the season and have been really hard to predict, so I think this game will end all square.”
