Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes that midfielder Conor Gallagher would fit in at Liverpool in their midfield. It comes as the England international continues to impress on loan at Crystal Palace and for the Three Lions.
Gallagher, 22, has made 25 Premier League appearances for the Eagles this season, scoring eight and assisting three. His form has led to plenty of plaudits as well as a call-up to the England senior squad. He made his debut in Saturday’s win over Switzerland, getting an assist for Luke Shaw’s equaliser.
His performance and character were a topic of discussion for manager Gareth Southgate after the game. Speaking with Sky Sports, he said: “He is infectious. He can set the tone for the rest of the team, you see that with his club and he presses with ambition.

"He goes and makes contact and turns a lot of the ball over. To a degree, we are trying to work through the two games and manage the players. It has been a bizarre week with everything going on.
"We feel Mason Mount and Gallagher press well but can leave us vulnerable to the switch, the Swiss worked that out. We had an idea of what we wanted to do, we would have wanted Bukayo Saka to have a look at that."
The game gave a potential glimpse of what could be the future of the Chelsea midfield, with Mason Mount pairing with Gallagher for the game. However, it could also have its issues, as outlined by Southgate.
In light of his performances, former striker Cascarino believes that there are few players like Gallagher, but claimed that Liverpool may be a better fit for the 22-year-old. Speaking with Talksport, he said: “Conor Gallagher is an outstanding attacking midfielder who always looks like he’s going to get a goal or make an assist.
“I like him because I don’t think there’s too many of his type around. Liverpool, for me, if they had a player like that as well adding him behind their front three, with his ability to get goals.
“Chelsea would never sell him to Liverpool, but they’d do really well with him. Conor Gallagher will get goals. Whether or not he will get his chance at Chelsea, I don’t know.
“No one at Chelsea can do what he does, but it depends if Thomas Tuchel wants to play that kind of player in his system. I hope he does give him a chance.”
The summer may give an indication as to where Gallagher’s future may lie, but for the time being he has the rest of the season at Selhurst Park to complete.
