Former Celtic starlet hoping to revive career with Saudi move

Former Celtic talent Vincent Angelini has completed a move to Saudi Arabia after his contract expired at English Premier League side Brentford.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper agreed a two-year deal with Al-Riyadh this week, joining the Saudi Pro-League side as a free agent.

Angelini – the grandson of Celtic legend Davie Hay – left the Hoops two years ago after a decade working his way up through the ranks in the club’s youth system.

After a couple of short stints at English clubs, the youngster will be hoping a fresh start in Saudi can rejuvenate his career.

Having left Celtic to join Watford at the age of 17, Angelini played for the Hornets’ Under-21s but was unable to secure any game time in the first team.

After just 18 months at Vicarage Road, he then moved to Brentford's B team, where he also failed to make any first-team appearances and he was released by the club at the end of last season.

News broke of 2003-born Angelini's move to the Middle East late on Tuesday night, with the 20-year-old posting on his Instagram account on Wednesday: "Excited for this new chapter, ready to get to work!"

The young goalkeeper has represented Scotland at U21 level, making his debut in March 2023.

Al-Riyadh finished 14th in the 18-team Saudi Pro-League last season with a goal difference of -24.
