Former Celtic star set for Parkhead Champions League return after penning deal with Euro rival

Former Celtic attacker Marian Shved is set to come up against his old club after penning a long-term deal with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The one-time Hoops man has signed a five-year deal at the club after completing a move from Belgian outfit Mechelen. His transfer to the Ukrainian outfit will see him return to Parkhead in the Champions League with the two sides set to go head to head in Europe's premier competition.

A club statement read: "Twenty five-year-old midfielder Marian Shved transfers to Shakhtar from Belgian Mechelen. The contract lasts until the summer of 2027.

"Marian Shved is the Karpaty Lviv alumnus who has made his debut for their first team at the age of 17 managed by Igor Jovicevic. Then he has moved to Spanish Sevilla, but played only one match for the youth squad and six games (one goal, two assists) for U19 team in the UEFA Youth League.

"Starting from summer 2017, Marian has played for Karpaty and became a leader getting 43 appearances and 21 scored goals during one and a half season. In 2019, he transferred to Scottish Celtic (three appearances, one goal), then the midfielder spent a fruitful period in Belgian Mechelen: 62 appearances, eight scored goals and six assists.

"Since 2015, he has played for the junior and youth national teams of Ukraine. He made his debut for the Ukraine national team in November 2018, where he has currently played two matches."
