Former Celtic star Ryan Christie bags first EPL goal in comeback Bournemouth win

Ryan Christie bagged his first English Premier League goal as he helped Bournemouth to a comeback win.

The Cherries came from a goal down to defeat Leicester City and Brendan Rodgers. The Foxes had just picked up a confidence boosting win over Nottingham Forest and went into the lead after just 10 minutes through Patson Daka but goals from Philip Billing and Christie inside three second half minutes turned the game on its head.

Former Celtic man Christie left the club to join Bournemouth in the English Championship as he helped his new side reach England's top flight. He has now got off the mark in the top league with a match-winning goal to send the newly promoted side into eighth spot in the table with 12 points from nine games. They boast a three wins, losses and draws record to date.

Speaking after the defeat, Jonny Evans said: “Our standards dropped, especially in the second half,” Evans said. “I think it’s probably been the story of the season in terms of starting the games and playing well, coming under a bit of pressure and finding that difficult to deal with at the moment.

“They put a bit of pressure on us [after half-time]. Not an enormous amount, we made one or two passes where we gave the ball away. We just invited the pressure and never really recovered.”

He continued: “I think in the second half, we should have probably taken a point in the game. It’s probably not a bad point in the last 10 minutes when you find yourself 2-1 down, but being in that position is disappointing anyway.

“We found it difficult to get back in and our passing wasn’t there. We found it difficult to create chances to get back in the game. That’s probably the most disappointing thing for ourselves.

“He (Brendan Rodgers) talked about our possession of the ball and our sloppy passes [at full-time], we invited pressure and in the Premier League the standard is so high, so you can’t give the ball away that many times.”
