Former Celtic man hits last gasp leveller as Bundesliga new boys claim point at Stuttgart

Oliver Burke was the last gasp hero as Werder Bremen snatched a point in their first home game since returning to the Bundesliga.

The former Celtic loanee was introduced from the bench in the 84th minute as his new side chased an equaliser in front of a packed home crowd. The Scotland international made the move back to Germany this summer having previously turned out for RB Leipzig and he showed his worth to his new side by popping up in the 95th minute to hit the net.

Burke - who has also played for the likes of Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Sheffield United - latched onto a flicked on ball to poke the ball beyond the advancing keeper to send the home fans and bench wild.

The 25-year-old told Werder Bremen's official website: “I’m really happy with my goal and I think it was a really important point for us. Today was extremely hot with difficult conditions, but I found we played well overall.

"Our first goal was really good and we countered really well as well. It was a very intense game.”

He also hailed the atmosphere in the ground and praised the 'brilliant fans'.

He added: “The fans were brilliant. They supported us the entire time as if it were the final minutes of the game.”
