Former Celtic loanee Oliver Burke 'wanted' in Millwall transfer with club working on permanent deal

Former Celtic loanee Oliver Burke could be heading to Millwall on a permanent deal with the English Championship club working on securing a move for the attacker.

The 25-year-old spent half of last season on loan at the Lions from Sheffield United and talks are now underway for the Scotland international to return on a full-time basis. The speedster broke through as a youngster and earned a big-money move to RB Leipzig from Nottingham Forest.

However, his spell in Germany didn't work out and he returned to England with West Brom before going out on loan on numerous occasions. Brendan Rodgers snapped him up on a temporary deal during his time at Celtic with Burke scoring four goals and provided three assists in 19 appearances at Parkhead.

He has also had a season in Spain with Alaves but could be on the move again with his current deal having just 12 months to run.Scotland cap Burke - who doesn't appear to be in the plans at Sheffield United ahead of the new season - scored twice in 14 games for Millwall and could now return with the club seeking to boost their attacking options report SouthLondonpress.

Speaking back in January, he said: “I’m at a stage now where I do want to settle.".

“I know I’m only a loan player but I’m still going to treat it the same – that is my club.

"I want to do it for the team, do it for the fans and do everything I can to put everything into it to help the team, to put us in a great position.”

Burke has 13 international caps to date scoring one goal.

His solo strike was a last minute Hampden winner over Cyprus in a Euro 2020 qualifying match that kicked off Steve Clarke' s reign as national boss with a dramatic last-gasp victory.
