Former Celtic defender Darnell Fisher has been forced to retire from football due to a knee injury.
The 29-year-old came through the Parkhead youth ranks before going on to make over 20 appearances for the Hoops under the leadership of Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila.
Fisher also enjoyed a successful loan spell at St Johnstone where he made 23 games under Tommy Wright before he opted to move south to Rotherham.
He spent a season with United in the Championship before switching to Preston North End, for whom he would play 177 times.
A move to Middlesbrough would follow, but injuries unfortunately hampered his spell and he was recently released upon the expiry of his contract.
Today in a statement on his social media channels, Fisher has confirmed his retirement. He wrote: "The time has come to hang my boots up due to my knee injury, I’ve tried everything to get back to full fitness but just not meant to be.
"Thank you to all my team mates, clubs and the fans who have supported me over the years."
Celtic hero Scott Brown sent his well wishes on Instagram writing: "All the best in the future my man. Stay positive."
